New Article: In Defense of Seth McFarlane

Seth McFarlane, Host of the 2012 Oscar Ceremony

My most controversial article ever!

For starters, I can’t believe I’m writing an article with this title. I generally do not like Seth McF’s stuff. Like, at all. I think Family Guy, American Dad, etc. are all, well, pretty crappy. So why on earth would I be defending this guy? Read the full article!

I have to say I agree with you and the good points you made throughout. I, too, am not a Seth McF fan generally but I thought he did a good job. I thought the “Boob” song was hilarious. One question I’ve had since watching the telecast is “Would it have mattered if it was another comedian?” For example: Would an actor from Monty Python, doing a bit on the Oscars, get as much criticism for the same song? Of course, its one of those questions I’ll never have an answer to. I give Seth credit for, as you aptly pointed out, starting a very important societal dialogue through humor. One we need to have more of. Also, it takes guts to make fun of the Oscars, and Hollywood, at the Oscars. Thank you for this article. Your analysis of the humor involved was very insightful and persuasive. While a long time fan of satire, I walk away feeling I have a better understanding of it.
