Jesus Rehabs on a School Night

The Jesus Rehab has a show Tuesday night!

The Jesus Rehab has a show Tuesday night!

Why must my favorite musics happen live on weekday nights? There are two problems when they do this:

  1. I am old.
  2. I am a parent.

Therefore it takes some pretty special circumstances to get me to go out to a musics show in the middle of the week. Like the musics show that The Jesus Rehab is playing tomorrow (Tuesday) at The Sunset Tavern in Seattle.

Nowadays to get me to go out to musics on a school night, it has to be a musics that I won’t have good opportunity to see otherwise. Like my out-of-town favorite musics who only blow through the area once or twice a year. As much as I love The Jesus Rehab musics shows, I know that I’ll have opportunity to see them again fairly soon, so I don’t feel as much necessity to stay out on a school night.

But that’s just me. And me is not you. That means that YOU should prolly go see this show, ’cause it promises to be muchly about the kicking of ass!

Details:
Hello Tuesday Night Rock!! – The Jesus Rehab, We Are Traitors, and Yukon Gold (Facebook event)
Tuesday, July 1st at 8:00 PM
@ The Sunset Tavern
5433 Ballard Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107 (map)
$6, 21+

And who knows? Perhaps I will be feeling young and spry tomorrow evening and you just might see me there. Who is to be knowing? Are you to be knowing? I am not to be knowing. The only way to know is if you go to the Sunset Tavern and look for me!

Incanus Would Own the Weekend… if it Weren’t for the Mullet!

Two shows in two days? That daft old wizard...

Two shows in two days? That daft old wizard…

Local fantasy-metal band, of which my pal Esa the Periwinkle Fool is a member, Incanus (named, of course, after Gandalf’s name in southern Middle-Earth), is having quite a weekend!

First off, this Saturday they’re playing as part of a massive show at the 2-Bit Saloon in Seattle. Then the very next evening (Sunday) they’re going all the way up to Bellingham’s own The Shakedown to play another show—a show that just so happens to be their Album Release Show!

You’d think with a weekend like that, nothing could possibly top the mighty magic of Incanus. Well… they have some competition. For, you see, Saturday night is also the return of the mullet.

The Mullet Returns!

The Mullet Returns!

As I mentioned earlier, this Saturday night the 28th, live on stage at Fools Play Improv, my brother is getting his hair crafted into a classic, early-1990s mullet. For reals.

So for Saturday you’ll have to decide whether to see some metal or to see some mullet. I cannot decide for you.

Details:
Blue Sabbath Black Cheer, Burien, Power Skeleton, Incanus (Facebook Event)
Saturday, June 18th 9:00 PM
@ the 2-Bit Saloon
4818 17th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107 (map)
$7, 21+

OR

Fools Play Makeover
Saturday, June 28th 9:00 PM
@ Olympia Family Theater
112 State Ave NE Olympia, WA, 98501 (map)
$5, All Ages (some mature content)

Of course, the only competition Incanus has on Sunday is the distance to Bellingham, so that’s really no competition at all.

Details:
Part Wolf (final show), Incanus (album release), Scumeating (Facebook event)
Sunday, June 29th 9:00 PM
@ The Shakedown
1212 N State St, Bellingham, WA 98225 (map)
$5, 21+

If anybody reading this here is actually in Bellingham, then you have no choice but to go to the Shakedown and see some metal.

The Legend of Korra Season 3 Premieres Tomorrow!

Who wrote the Book of Change?

Who wrote the Book of Change?

If you were a fan of the original Avatar: the Last Airbender cartoon but haven’t gotten into its sequel, The Legend of Korra, then shame on you. This is seriously one of the best cartoons on the air right now. Two seasons have come and gone, and even though they only have a dozen episodes per season, it’s still a fantastic bit of television that doesn’t shy away from any of the subjects it raises.

This Friday (June 27th) the third season (or Book as they’re called) premieres. Wanna watch the trailer? You know you do!

I am excite! It looks great. And if you looked closely you might have recognized a brief shot of someone who is very important to The Last Airbender lore…

Them burn scars look familiar...

The Legend of Korra Book 3: Change premieres June 27th at 7pm/6c with THREE EPISODES on Nickelodeon. Looking forward to this filling up my DVR!

Marian Call & Molly Lewis vs the Mullet: Fight!

At the end of the tour...

At the end of the tour…

Very exciting! Two goddesses of Geek are meeting up about seven blocks from my house to do a musics show! That’s right, chanteuse Marian Call and ukulelist Molly Lewis are going to be at the lovely Metronome Cafe at 7:30 on Saturday night.

Metronome's Logo

RIGHT HERE, BABY. RIGHT HERE.

You’d think that with such an awesome show happening so close to my house, there’d be no way I’d miss it, right? Well… Marian & Molly have some competition. For, you see, Saturday night is also the return of the mullet. A little backstory:

Back in the first half of the 1990s, my brother Mike grew a pretty spectacular mullet. As was the fashion at the time. Just look at old WWF footage from the early 90s. You’ll see.

For the past few months, Mike has been growing his hair long (uniformly this time, not just in the back). And this Saturday night live on stage at Fools Play Improv he is going to get his hairs did. But just the front and sides. That’s right…

The Mullet Returns!

The Mullet Returns!

Fools Play Improv performs “Fools Play Makeover!” It’s gonna be a pretty spectacular show.

Which one of these shows will you see? I cannot decide that for you, my little friends. You must decide:

Details:
Tacoma, WA – Metronome Coffee with Molly Lewis! (Facebook event)
Saturday, June 28th 7:30 PM
@ Metronome Coffee
3518 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98406 (map)
Free (suggested donation), All Ages!

OR

Fools Play Makeover
Saturday, June 28th 8:00 PM
@ Olympia Family Theater
112 State Ave NE Olympia, WA, 98501 (map)
$5, All Ages (some mature content)

You must choose one of them! “Neither” is not a valid answer!

Open Mike Eagle & Hannibal Buress Have Some Advice For You

Can I have some more Career Advice?

Can I have some more Career Advice?

Hooray! There is a brand-new video from Open Mike Eagle‘s new Dark Comedy album (my current Album of the Month, BeeTeeDubs), and you can watch it! Watch it! It stars Mike and his pal, comedian Hannibal Buress (who also raps on the song), giving out some much-needed advice with their own “Advice Show.” The track is called Doug Stamper (Advice Raps) (feat. Hannibal Buress). Partake and enjoy:

If you like what you heard (and c’mon, let’s be real, how could you not like that? That stuff’s hilarious), you can git it for yourself here:

Oh, also, Mike is gonna be passing through Seattle towards the end of August, so you should come with me to see that show. Y’know. Show, y’know. But I’ll have more info on that at a later time…

See Terrapin Tonight, and Meet Jesus Tomorrow

There are two music shows happening on school nights. One of them is TONIGHT (Monday)!

Terrapin Tonight!

Terrapin Tonight!

Yes, Neighbor Gary in his guise as Terrapin will be playing in Tacoma tonight! It’s at the New Frontier Lounge, which is an exceptionally awesome venue near the Tacoma Dome. It has a good retro vibe to it (it used to be a restaurant/bowling alley) and still has its old-timey signage and everything.

Details:
Burning Palms/Lozen/Terrapin (Facebook Event)
Monday, 6/16 8:00 PM
@ New Frontier Lounge
301 E 25th St, Tacoma, WA 98421
$5 21+

Then TOMORROW (Tuesday) night, you can go to rehab with Jesus himself!

Meet Jesus Tomorrow!

Meet Jesus Tomorrow!

The Jesus Rehab, Seattle’s best two-man band, will be playing at Ballard’s own Tractor Tavern.

Details:
Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, The Jesus Rehab, Spinning Whips (Facebook Event)
Tuesday, 6/17 8:00 PM
@ Tractor Tavern
5213 Ballard Ave NW, Seattle, 98107

Will I see you there? I dunno! They’re both on school nights, and I’m very tired on account of having a wee beb! So we’ll see. I might go to New Frontier but probably won’t get up to Tractor.
