3 More Chances to see Fools Play Improv in March!

Two different shows, three different evenings!

Two different shows, three different evenings!

So you’re thinking, “Hmmm… I find this Chris chap to be interesting. I would like to see more of him.” Well, my fine little friends, you’re in luck!

My improv troupe Fools Play Improv will be performing three more times before the sun sets forever on the month of March 2016!

First, this Thursday the 24th will be Episode 3 of “Improv & Dragons,” our excellently weird show wherein we do improvised scenes based on scanty notes that were taken at an actual, real-life session of Dungeons & Dragons (that none of the Fools were at).

Improv & Dragons

Certainly NOT dungeons.

It’s very funny. You can learn more about it by watching the video that I posted here.

All-Ages, $10

Then, this Saturday the 26th, come to our regular venue at 924 Broadway in Downtown Tacoma for a very special presentation of “Fools Play Easter Battle.” The two icons of Easter, Jesus and the Easter Bunny, battle it out for ultimate supremacy over the holiday!

Fools Play Easter Battle

Who will win?

It’s all funny and improvised! And the stakes couldn’t be higher, as this video proves:

Plus, I’ll perform my annual “Peep Show” wherein I perform a puppet show whose puppets consist entirely of marshmallow peeps! I usually end up eating a couple dozen of ’em! I believe this might actually be my 10th anniversary of the Peep Show. That’s a lotta sugar.

Then finally, next Thursday the 31st will be the fourth and final episode of “Improv & Dragons.” What will happen with our intrepid party of adventurers screw-ups? There’s only one way to find out!

Don’t forget we have it on good authority that this show is funny:

And that’s it for the month of March. Oh, Fools Play will be a part of the South Sound Improv Festival the in Olympia the first weekend of April, but I’ll get more into that later. This is quite enough for now.

So I know what you’re thinking now: “Yes, this Chris chap is most delightful. I’ll most definitely (or mos-def) be seeing ALL of these three remaining shows, and I’ll also be donating at least three times the ticket prices at each deliciously wondrous performance.”

I knew it!

The REAL History of Dungeons & Dragons & Improv

Improv & Dragons

It’s all true!

You may have heard some “stories” about how roleplaying games came to be invented back in the 1970s. You may know some “facts” about the creators and their “histories” as well.

But let me tell you, that’s all bunk. Fools Play Improv has produced a video that finally unveils the REAL history of Dungeons & Dragons to enlighten us all. Watch it here:

To learn more about Dungeons & Dragons, you should come see Episode 2 of “Fools Play Presents: Improv & Dragons” tomorrow (Thursday) night in Tacoma!

That video doesn’t convince you that this’ll be a gut-bustingly funny show? Well, how about we let The News Tribune convince you with this gushingly glowing review:

See? FUNNY. Hope to see you there tomorrow!

“Of the Month” March 2016

Stage Show of the Month:
Fools Play presents: Improv & Dragons
Fools Play Presents: Improv & Dragons

I’m in a new show this month; it’s very excite! In this new show, the Fools (including me) create improvised comedy inspired by transcripts of real Dungeons & Dragons sessions! Every fantasy trope available is skewered by the Fools. Even better, the rivalries and dynamics between players of D&D are also fodder for improvised hijinks. Fools Play Improv & Dragons performs four nights in March! Please roll a twenty-sided die and consult the following table:
• Thursday March 10 at 7:00 pm
• Thursday March 17 at 7:00 pm
• Thursday March 24 at 7:00 pm
• Thursday March 31 at 7:00 pm
Catch the show at the at Tacoma Actors Repertory Theatre (TART) In the Tacoma Armory (enter on the backside of the building, through the chain link fence) at 715 S. 11th Street Tacoma, WA 98405.

Tweeter of the Month:

Kids Write Jokes

One of my favorite things in all the world is the masterful alternate logic used by very young kids when they write jokes. This twitter account compiles the best un-used kid jokes that are submitted to a joke website. They’re all real, and they’re all by kids. Some samples:

Tabletop Game of the Month:
patchwork
Patchwork

Patchwork is a two-person-only board game wherein both players are trying to create their own quilt from a communal supply of differently-shaped quilt pieces. It’s kind of like Tetris in that you have to figure out how best to build your quilt so that future pieces will fit. But since you’re both working from the same pool, there is a surprising depth of strategy. One of the few games I know where it’s not uncommon to end with negative points, but still win!
