Responsive!

This is Chris: Responsive Redesign

Mobile Version!

Do you notice anything different about ThisisChris.com? Well, if I did my job correctly, you probably don’t… unless you are looking at this site on a small screen.

Remember way back in July when I said I was planning a responsive re-design on my website? You don’t? Well, that’s not surprising.

Anyway, I had a big brain burst this past weekend and cranked it out. So the website looks pretty much exactly the same, but there’s a bunch of new CSS under the hood. I should say it looks the same until you look at it on a mobile phone (or a smaller browser window).

Go ahead: gradually shrink this browser window and watch how my website now responds to the size of the window!

There are still a few tweaks to work out; the “You Might Also Like” links are pretty borked. And I haven’t yet found a good way to shrink both the height and the width of iframes. Does anyone know a good trick for responsive iframes that does not involve wrapping them in another

tag? I don’t want to have to go back through ten+ years of this blog and wrap all my iframes.

Responsive Redesign Coming Soon(ish?)

Hey, folks,

For some reason in one of the busiest times of my life, I have decided to do a re-design of thisischris.com. It’s not so much a visual re-design (though there will be some changes) as much as it is a back-end CSS overhaul. I’m making thisichris.com a TRULY responsive-designed site. That means that you’ll be presented with 100% of the same content no matter what screen you’re using to look at this website, but the layout will change automatically based on the resolution of that screen.

I haven’t done a major code overhaul since I switched to WordPress many, many years ago. So it’s time. Unfortunately I’m already like four movie reviews behind (soon to be five), and, y’know, my wife is practicing Pregomancy and that takes up a lot of both of our times. Growing an entire person from scratch is a lot of work!

I probably won’t be done any time soon because there’s so much going on (including Fools Play getting a new venue and all of the promotion that needs to be done for that).

Where Babby At?

I know I said I wouldn’t post a tonne of baby stuff on this website, but I do need to post this to let you know where to go if you DO want baby updates.

And here is where you go:

1. I made a new blog just for baby updates: Updates on the Harris/Hamm Baby!
http://harrishammbaby.blogspot.com
harrishammbaby

2. I created a Facebook Group: I Want Updates on the Harris/Hamm Baby!
https://www.facebook.com/groups/harrishammbaby/
Mostly it will re-post information that is in the new baby blog.

So there you go! Now you can be updated as much (or as little) as you want.

I’ll be back soon with a movie review of Iron Man 3, and probably one for the new Star Trek shortly thereafter. Cheers!

The Times, They Are A-Well, You Know

Good Morning!

So some of you (by which I mean the two people who actually read this website) might have noticed that yesterday when I posted my “Of the Month” it was the first time in a decade when it didn’t include a “Link of the Month” to a specific website, but instead had a “Tweeter of the Month.” Well, that’s ’cause the internets is a changing place; no longer is it just about websites, but it’s about social media and all that. So I decided to change with the times. Instead of forcing myself to choose one website and two other options, from now on I will choose any three options that strike my fancy. They could include things like:

  • Album
  • Game
  • Book
  • TV Show
  • Movie
  • Webseries
  • Website
  • App
  • Tweeter
  • Youtube Channel
  • Googler
  • Google Circle
  • Facebook Page

Or anything else that strikes my fancy. My fancy fancy.

I also do plan to catch up on my Movie Reviews next week. Expect one this weekend and one shortly thereafter (honest). And I’m also going to actually write an Article this month, as well: a full-length Album Review! I ain’t done one o’ them since 2005!

In many ways 2012 was a shitty, shitty year. But there were also some very wonderful things that happened. And I’d like to be sappy for a momento and thank all my peeps who were there with me through both types of happenings. I am actually looking very forward to 2013; I have some fun creative plans that I think you’ll find enjoyable. Who is to be knowing? Are you to be knowing? I am not to be knowing.

Mucho,
Chris

Keep in Touch

I’m back (again, more or less) to posting here more regularly. You probably already know this, but my website here is not the only place on the internets where I exist or post things. So I thought I’d make this handy list of all my online social existences with links to my profiles (and profile names in parentheses) so you can find and follow me a myriad of ways. Whenever there’s a new post on thisischris.com it usually ends up being posted to a handful of these places as well, or sometimes it’ll even appear in one of these places before it ends up here:

Also, don’t forget to subscribe to my feed to stay the utmost up-to-date.

As you may have gathered from my posts in the past couple of months, 2012 has been kind of a shitty year for me what with loved ones dying and all. But it hasn’t been all bad, of course. Just last weekend (the one before the 4th of July) I had a staycation (I can’t believe I actually typed that horrendous word) that had some wonderful moments in it. And the 4th of July was also very nice, surrounded by my family of friends (and a couple of actual family members). We, of course, went to bed very early on the 4th, as is our tradition.

I’ve got a handful of things planned for thisischris.com for these next couple of weeks. Mostly reviews including at least one Movie Review and at least one Vidreoview, and possibly a quick book review or two! And maybe some music news! Who knows? Are you to be knowing? I am not to be knowing.

So keep in touch. Look me up.

Kitty Fantastico “Fuzzy Bean” Harris

Anybody who has been over to our home in the past 11 years will be sad to hear this, but Kitty Fantastico “Fuzzy Bean” Harris has passed away.

Fantastico

By all rights she should have died two-and-a-half years ago when she suffered massive kidney failure, so these past couple of years have been bonus time for which I am unbelievably grateful. Three times a week since January 2009 Carrie & I stuck a needle into the back of her neck and held her down as subcutaneous fluids drained into her in order to keep her healthy. And every single moment was worth it.

Fantastico was my first “complete” person. All of the other cats I’ve lived with either were older than I was so that I didn’t know them when they were kittens, or I moved out of the house between when we got them and when they died. We got Fantastico as a tiny baby (she could fit in Carrie’s shoe) when she was left in a box outside the Tacoma Goodwill. We raised her, trained her, took care of her, loved her, and were with her for her whole life, including when she died.

Though we are incredibly sad (and this has been kind of a shitty year), I am gratified to know first-hand that Fantastico had a good life and was a happy cat (though she was always a little miffed at us for bringing Suki home). Wherever I look in this house I see her, in every single nook, cranny, and corner: sitting on heaters and stealing all of their heat, waiting in the office window for us to get home (known in these instances as “Window Bean”), sleeping on the back of my office chair while I was on the computer, rubbing her face on Carrie’s hair brush (weird, but see the video below), climbing shelves and mantles in order to eat flowers that I brought home for Carrie, hissing at guests and then examining their purses and rubbing on their shoes, “helping” with laundry by burrowing into it, and always running out into the dining room and rolling over for me whenever I got home.

I will let this gallery of photos and videos serve as her memorial. Enjoy! We certainly enjoyed having her. She was a good kitty.

I will be taking about a week-long break from posting here.

We’re Back…

…or at least most of us are.

You may have noticed that I only posted once in the entire month of April (which doesn’t really count because I was just testing out posting from the Instagram app that I installed in my phone).

Well, this is because as most of you probably know, on the morning of the April 9th my mom passed away. Understandably I have not really felt like blogging. Her obituary is here.

Days Gone By

So it’s been a rough month. I’d like to thank everyone for their support over the past few weeks. You know who you are. It means a lot to me and Carrie and I am unbelievably grateful.

I plan to re-commence posting here later this week.

Until then, thanks again.
-Chris
