Trevor Peach Has Got You Covered

...SONG covered, that is! Get it?

…SONG covered, that is! Get it?

The Fourth volume of Trevor Peach’s one-song-a-week project (AKA “Squandered Promise of a Wasted Year”) has begun, and this one is a pretty awexome hum-dinger. In his previous volume he did remakes of some of his own “classic” songs. But in this volume he is going to be putting his own spin on other musicians’ songs with a series of cover songs! He’s released the track list, and it includes some delightfully surprising and bizarre choices. Here they all are (and you can listen to them all) right here:

1. Black Sparrow – J Hacha De Zola

2. Your Mother Doesn’t Love You – Jason Brunet

3. Long Way To Fall – The Electric NoNo

4. Jesus, Friend of Sinners – Joshua Stephens

5. First 48 – Chris Blount

6. Secret Squirrel – Robb Benson

7. Nightmares – Open Mike Eagle

8. Nightmares – The Hoot Hoots

9. Blueberries – Julia Massey

10. Shake – The Great UM

11. White Whale – Kid in the Attic

12. Mr. Boots – Incanus

13. Dada Pops – Chubby Mummy

Volume IV marks a musical departure from the previous three volumes as well, because they’re not being produced by Geoff B. Gibbs. They’re being produced by Vincent Fresco. That’s right: the Vincent Fresco who produced Trevor Peach’s very first EP back 12 years ago!

The first cover has already been released. You can take a wissen right here:

I’m particularly excited to see how Trevor and Vincent handle Open Mike Eagle’s hip-hop and Chubby Mummy’s general incompetence. Also, there are rumors that there might be a couple of bonus tracks that aren’t listed here. There’s some exciting things in the pipeline from Trevor Peach this summer FO SHO.

Incanus Would Own the Weekend… if it Weren’t for the Mullet!

Two shows in two days? That daft old wizard...

Two shows in two days? That daft old wizard…

Local fantasy-metal band, of which my pal Esa the Periwinkle Fool is a member, Incanus (named, of course, after Gandalf’s name in southern Middle-Earth), is having quite a weekend!

First off, this Saturday they’re playing as part of a massive show at the 2-Bit Saloon in Seattle. Then the very next evening (Sunday) they’re going all the way up to Bellingham’s own The Shakedown to play another show—a show that just so happens to be their Album Release Show!

You’d think with a weekend like that, nothing could possibly top the mighty magic of Incanus. Well… they have some competition. For, you see, Saturday night is also the return of the mullet.

The Mullet Returns!

The Mullet Returns!

As I mentioned earlier, this Saturday night the 28th, live on stage at Fools Play Improv, my brother is getting his hair crafted into a classic, early-1990s mullet. For reals.

So for Saturday you’ll have to decide whether to see some metal or to see some mullet. I cannot decide for you.

Details:
Blue Sabbath Black Cheer, Burien, Power Skeleton, Incanus (Facebook Event)
Saturday, June 18th 9:00 PM
@ the 2-Bit Saloon
4818 17th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107 (map)
$7, 21+

OR

Fools Play Makeover
Saturday, June 28th 9:00 PM
@ Olympia Family Theater
112 State Ave NE Olympia, WA, 98501 (map)
$5, All Ages (some mature content)

Of course, the only competition Incanus has on Sunday is the distance to Bellingham, so that’s really no competition at all.

Details:
Part Wolf (final show), Incanus (album release), Scumeating (Facebook event)
Sunday, June 29th 9:00 PM
@ The Shakedown
1212 N State St, Bellingham, WA 98225 (map)
$5, 21+

If anybody reading this here is actually in Bellingham, then you have no choice but to go to the Shakedown and see some metal.

A Summer of Movies & Musics

Photo by Emdot. Some rights reserved.

There are SO many movies coming out in 2014 that I really wanna see in the theater. Way more than in 2013. I’ve already seen a whole bunch as evidenced by my review output in the past couple of months. And I’m already three whole reviews behind! And I’m gonna go see another movie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) on Wednesday night! YIKES!

Here’s just a brief list:

  • The Lego Movie
  • Under the Skin
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2
  • Maleficent
  • Edge of Tomorrow
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Trust Me
  • Jupiter Ascending
  • Lucy
  • Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
  • Snowpiercer
  • Let’s Be Cops

This also looks to be an excellent Summer for live musics, with shows coming up from a bunches of excellenté musicians. Here is just a brief list:

I’ll have more info on these shows as their dates approach. Just as I’ll have more info on these movies after I see and review them.

Oh, also, I just got Mario Kart 8.

So, yeah, this website is probably gonna be nothing but musics, movies, and Mario for the next three months. Enjoy!

Dueling Shows! Incanus, Terrapin, & WIN95SE vs Julia Massey & the Five Finger Discount!

Which One Will You See!?

Which One Will You See!?

Ho boy, folks, this Friday you’ve got a freakishly difficult decision to make. There are TWO COUNT ‘EM TWO excellent music shows happening in Seattle, both of which are just chock full of my musician friends. But they’re at the same time in two different venues! Gasp! You can only go to one! BUT WHICH ONE!? Let’s take a look:

(1) Incanus, Terrapin, & WIN95SE

The Josephine: as DIY as it gets.

Columbia City Theater: the epitome of class.

$8 21+

DECISIONS DECISIONS

Well, it looks like Carrie & I are going to be going to the Columbia City Theater show. Why? Because as much as we love the people involved in the Josephine show, that venue frankly frightens us. See, we are old. And the fancy, comfortable, highly-professional Columbia City Theater makes us feel relaxed and safe. Whereas the underground, DIY, this-is-just-someone’s-garage, punk-kids vibe of the Josephine is not terribly attractive. We’re too old for that sh*t.

But that doesn’t mean you are! Whichever show you choose, you’re sure to hear some great effing musics. So choose one! Choosing neither is NOT AN OPTION!

Incanus at the Josephine This Saturday

Gandalf in the South!

Gandalf in the South!

Esa the Periwinkle Fool of Fools Play Improv is quite the busy musical beaver lately.

(This is the color Periwinkle)

He not only has his solo noise/folk/weird project The Old Salt (who has played on the same bills with the likes of Three Ninjas and Julia Massey), but he’s also in the band Incanus from Whatcom County. Also, the name of the band is one of Gandalf’s names in Middle-Earth (according to The Two Towers (the Book), it’s his name “in the south”). So there’s that.

This Saturday, the 25th of January, Incanus is on a bill at the Josephine!

Sat, Jan 25.

Saturday, the 25th of January.

A warning about the Josephine, though: it is only technically a music venue. Basically imagine that someone converted a garage into a music venue. That’s about it; it’s definitely BYOB. And last I heard they allowed smoking.

I shan’t be at this show as I have already committed to this weekend’s episode of Fools Play. But if you’re up in Seattle and unable to make it to Oly to see me, you should probably check out the Periwinkle Fool and the Grey Wizard.
