Kick Some Hands: “The Gamers: Hands of Fate” Kickstarter

The Gamers: Hands of Fate

These Hands Need Kickin’

Those Dead Gentlemen folks, the people responsible for The Gamers: Dorkness Rising (starring my pals the Gibbs Brothers) and the JourneyQuest webseries (starring Fran Kranz of Dollhouse and Cabin in the Woods fame), want to make a sequel to Dorkness Rising.

They were extremely successful with a Kickstarter campaign to make the 2nd season of JourneyQuest, so they have a Kickstarter campaign going for this latest endeavor as well. And this one looks like it’s going to go down to the wire: they have one week left and still need to raise about $40,000.

This sequel to Dorkness Rising is called Hands of Fate, and is about a foray into the world of Collectible Card Games. I enjoy the Dead Gentlemen’s output quite a bit, so I put in a few dollars. So can you! You can learn more about this project in this Kickstarter video of theirs:

The Dead Gentlemen are going to PAX (which is happening right now) to drum up support, so I have a feeling there’s going to be a rather large spike in support this weekend, but still every little bit helps.

Great Ideas on the Internets: Flip Steady iPad Cover

Flip Steady iPad Cover and Stand

Sometimes something comes along that just kinda knocks your socks off a little bit. Such was the case with the Flip Stead iPad Cover project on Kickstarter.

We’ve all seen iPad covers before, but they’ve all been kinda… lacking? But this Flip Steady is an ubelievably ingenious piece of functional origami that automatically turns into a stand when you flip it open. And you don’t ever have to reach behind the iPad to adjust it; it adjusts itself to however you orient your tablet.

Just take a look at this video:

The Flip Steady is a really amazing Tacoma success story. Developed by native Tacoman Isaiah Coberly & manufactured locally, it started with a goal of $10,000. It reached that goal in just a couple of days and is now rapidly approaching $25,000 with three weeks still to go before it closes.

I do not own an iPad (or any tablet), but if I did I would definitely be throwing down the $75 for the deluxe magnetized version (magnets powerful enough to hold the iPad to a fridge). But if I do get an iPad down the road, it’s good to know that this got enough funding to produce plenty of ’em. In fact, they’ve gotten so much over goal that they’re going to design a Flip Steady for another type of tablet, and you can vote for which one!

Kickstart Julia Massey!

I heart Julia Massey & The Five Finger Discount. Their previous album was my Album of the Month last April. I’ve seen them perform live in the last year more than any other music act except for maybe Three Ninjas. Their bass player was the best man at my wedding (this was pre-FFD days).

Well, they’re making a new album NOW: “Is There Room 4 Me?”

"Is There Room 4 Me?" by Julia Massey & The Five Finger Discount

It’s almost done, but they need a li’l help. They’ve started a Kickstarter page where you can go to help them out, and in return you can get some awexome JM+FFD swag! As of this posting they need LESS THAN $100 to reach their goal!

You know you love their music. You know you wanna hear their new album. You know you wanna help out. You know you want some cool swag. THERE AIN’T NO EXCUSE! Do it.

I’m not the only person who thinks you should!

EDIT 7/23: Update: They made it! Now they’re in “extra innings” where they can earn money to help promote the album. So don’t stop contributing now!
