Conspire to See the Gentlemen of Leisure Tomorrow (Thursday) Night!

GOL.LIFE

The Harper Conspiracy headlines the show.

I know Thursday is a school night ‘n’ all, but it’s also a fantastic opportunity to see a fantastic live performance by the Gentelmen of Leisure!

Details:
The Harper Conspiracy, Gentlemen of Leisure, Whitney Mongé (Faced Book Event)
Thursday, August 10th, 9:00 PM
@ The Sunset Tavern
5433 Ballard Ave NW, Seattle 98107 (map)
21+, $8.00

And guess what: despite the fact that it is a school night, Carrie & I plan on being in the audience! Wut-wut?

C’est vrai! But the only reason we can pull that off is because we have Friday off from work. Otherwise we might just be too old to go gallivanting around town listening to those crazy kids and their jungle music. Where are my ear plugs and my walker?

Warren Dunes Plays Musics with the Hoot Hoots & the Echolarks This Saturday

hootechodunes

First things first, isn’t that an awexome poster? I just lorve it.

So this Saturday (July 1st) there’s gonna be a pretty durned great show happening up at the Sunset Tavern in Seattle. Apparently a couple of members of the band The Hoot Hoots have birthdays about now-ish, so they’re calling this a “Birthday Show” for The Hoot Hoots. They’re a great, high-energy, funny band with matching costumes and light-up glasses. Always a goot time! Then there are the Echolarks, and I’m afraid I haven’t actually seen them live before so I can’t comment on them, but their recorded music has an exceptionally high polish and professionalism, and is quite catchy. And finally there’s Warren Dunes, the supergroup mashup of the Five Finger Discount and Electric NoNo. This is Warren Dunes’s first public show (their previous one was invite-only)!

In order of appearance on the poster, here are some sample songs from each of the bands involved in this show so you can sample the goodness:

So, yeah, should be a grand ol’ time!

YesYes! It’s Animated Electric NoNo!

Here's a photograph of a photographer photographing.

Here’s a photograph of a photographer photographing.

Last Friday Night my wife an I ventured (with several members of Gentlemen of Leisure) up to the Great White North of Ballard (the Sunset Tavern to be specific) to watch a rocks-and-or-rolls show featuring our friends to Cortese Brothers, who make up the band Electric NoNo.

Normally Electric NoNo consists solely of Jared Cortese on Guitar/Vocals and Dom Cortese on Drums/Backing Vocals/Every-Once-In-A-While-Keyboard. But this time they were sporadically joined by a whole bevy of additional musicians: a saxomophonist, an additional guitarist, and none other than Julia Massey on Keyboard/Backing Vocals!

As is my nature, I made some animated .gifs of the performance:

O Winged Jared!

The show was a record release for Electric NoNo’s new EP, Rain City Blue. GET IT GET IT GET IT!

The only thing wrong with this album is that it’s an EP, and I wants me an LP! Hop to it, Bros!

Also, expect some exciting announcements soon from Gentlemen of Leisure, as well as a joint Julia/NoNo venture called “Warren Dunes.” Stay tuned, dear reader…

New Official Music Video for Electric NoNo’s “Blue Planet”

YesYes

YesYes!

Electric NoNo is releasing a new EP next Friday to be entitled Rain City Blue, but today they released the first official music video from that album, for the 1-minute punk-pop gem of a song called “Blue Planet.” STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND WATCH IT HERE:

Wow. Even though it’s only a minute long, director Jeff Larson and the Cortese brothers sure did pack a tonne of awesome in there. They apparently spent nearly a year animating the video!

Speaking of EP release, Electric NoNo is having a release party on March 10th to celebrate these new-fangled musics they’re putting out. It’s on a Friday night, so you should go!

Jesus Rehabs on a School Night

The Jesus Rehab has a show Tuesday night!

The Jesus Rehab has a show Tuesday night!

Why must my favorite musics happen live on weekday nights? There are two problems when they do this:

  1. I am old.
  2. I am a parent.

Therefore it takes some pretty special circumstances to get me to go out to a musics show in the middle of the week. Like the musics show that The Jesus Rehab is playing tomorrow (Tuesday) at The Sunset Tavern in Seattle.

Nowadays to get me to go out to musics on a school night, it has to be a musics that I won’t have good opportunity to see otherwise. Like my out-of-town favorite musics who only blow through the area once or twice a year. As much as I love The Jesus Rehab musics shows, I know that I’ll have opportunity to see them again fairly soon, so I don’t feel as much necessity to stay out on a school night.

But that’s just me. And me is not you. That means that YOU should prolly go see this show, ’cause it promises to be muchly about the kicking of ass!

Tuesday, July 1st at 8:00 PM
@ The Sunset Tavern

$6, 21+

And who knows? Perhaps I will be feeling young and spry tomorrow evening and you just might see me there. Who is to be knowing? Are you to be knowing? I am not to be knowing. The only way to know is if you go to the Sunset Tavern and look for me!

I Don’t Know Who Amy Bockelman Is, but I’ll Be There Anyway!

Bockelfest #4! Rawr!

Bockelfest #4! Rawr!

Apparently there is a woman named Amy Bockelman. I only know three things about her:

  1. She’s from Germany.
  2. She has fantastic taste in musics
  3. She is friends with many fantastic musicians

She also apparently has her own mini music fest: Bockelfest. I gather from inference that it is really just a fancy birthday party, but nonetheless she manages to gather some awexome bands in an awexome venue and have a rockin’ (and public-invited) good time.

This year (Bockelfest 4) the shindig is at the lovely Sunset Tavern in lovely Ballard, and includes these lovely musics:

The Five Finger Discount on one foot each!

Since two of these bands are two of our very-favorite bands in existence right now (and I gather that the other one is some sort of ad hoc band created just for this event), you’d best believe that Carrie & I will be there! Perhaps we will even meet and befriend this Amy Bockelman person. SO CAN YOU!
