Talkin’ about that, talkin’ about that, talkin’ about that, talkin’ about that…
Earlier this month perennial thisischris.com favorite Warren Dunes was on Nancy Guppy’s “Art Zone” show on The Seattle Channel. They performed a song that has not yet been recorded and released to the general public, so if you haven’t seen them perform it live, this is probably your first time to be able to hear it! It’s basically an instrumental, because the only lyrics in the whole song are “Talkin’ about that burden” repeated over and over.
The first half of this video is actually Nancy Guppy interviewing Julia, which you should watch if you are interested. The song itself starts at 3:25 (I’ve keyed the video to start then). Partake and be pleasured:
I was trying to come up with some clever portmanteau, but “Spanish Ballroom at McMenamins Elks Temple” has absolutely no “W” or “D” in it whatsoever!
Rejoice, Tacomen and Tacowomen, for Julia Massey is bringing Warren Dunes back to T-town this very week!
They’re coming to the gorgeous Spanish Ballroom inside the new-ish McMenamins Elks Temple in downtown on Thursday night. Yes, it’s a school night, but it’s an ALL-AGES show and it starts at 7:00, so you can bring the kids! You should bring the kids!
Warren Dunes is sharing the stage with Chris King and the Gutterballs, as well as Tacoma band Modern Daze (of whom I confess I have not heard before). Julia also just announced that the extremely excellent local Tacoma rapper Chris Blount will be joining them for a song during their set!
Chris Blount and his blunt T-shirt.
The Fam and I and some fun kids are making the trek downtown to see this show.

Three Seattle musical powerhouses, Eva Walker of The Black Tones, Julia Massey of Warren Dunes, and Alaia D’Alessandro of Tres Leches, have collaborated on a cover version of the Mister Rogers theme song. With twinkling pianos, sublime strings, and soaring harmonies, it is as delightful and pleasurable as you would expect:
Go grab a tissue to wipe your eyes. You have now been pleasured.
You might think it’s okay to pick and choose what you turn away from…
At long last, Warren Dunes (feat. Julia Massey) has released a new music video! An outcast-type character named “Ropey” is stalked by two shady-looking fellows (credited as “Detectives” in the video description).
There is a fantastic gag where one of the detectives flips up his dark glasses only to be wearing more dark glasses beneath them. This video also contains the greatest-ever twelve seconds of footage of any music video in the history of ever. Watch and be pleasured:
That’s right, one of the kids at the end of the video is my very own daughter! My daughter is a music video star! Huge shout-out to Julia et al., who have been so generous with my li’l girl. How many of you all have had a band write a song about your kid and also feature them in a music video??
Something something… some sorta pun about studying animation at my Alma Mater, Warren Dunes…
This last Saturday, Warren Dunes made the epic trek down from Seattle to perform a show in my very own Tacoma! Did I forget to post about the show beforehand like I usually do? SURE LOOKS LIKE IT.
The show was at Alma Mater (specifically “Fawcett Hall” in the back half of the building), which is an absolutely gorgeous venue in downtown T-Town. Seriously high-quality all around. A couple of cool things happened other than the show: Warren Dunes got me into the green room and I got some fancy green room tequila, and I was able to stand in the venue while they did their soundcheck to make sure it all sounded good (it sounded frikkin’ great; this is a high-quality venue with high-quality sound).
I made a couple of animated .GIFs of the performance, as is my nature.
Ch-ch-ch-check it out (the soundcheck)…
A bit of the Emerald City in the City of Destiny…
I promise I will try to give a heads-up for the next show I go to so you won’t just hear about it afterwards. You can also always check out my calendar to see what upcoming stuff I’m into. If you’re into that kind of thing.
Hey, remember how Warren Dunes had an album release party back towards the beginning of April? Well, it turns out they’re not done yet, because they’re having another album release party this Thursday night (April 18th).
This one is at the venerable Sonic Boom Records in Seattle. Says the members of Warren Dunes:
We are so excited to celebrate our release of ‘Welcome to Warren Dunes’ at one of our favorite record stores in Seattle! This is a dream come true for us, and we hope you can make it.
It is free, and all ages! CDs will be available at the store!
A very sonic boom to you, too…

Even though this is a school night, we’re seriously considering going. SO CAN YOU!
On Saturday I went to the Seattle to go to the album release show for Warren Dunes. As is my fashion, I made some animated .gifs of the festivities:
o yes
Has Sonics Guy seen any photos from this event…?
I also snagged the album! It turns out it’s only a 6-song EP, not a full-length album. What’s the deal with my friends only putting out EPs recently? See Exhibits A, B, C, and now D (this EP that I’m talking about now).
Anyway, it’s pretty great to get these songs in my own grubby mitts after what seems like such a long time. Strangely, it looks like they haven’t actually released this album anywhere online yet(!?). I got it directly from Julia Massey’s hands. But here’s what it looks like:
Welcome to zombo.com. I mean Warren Dunes.
Hopefully you’ll be able to listen to it soon, too!
