TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT! Open Mike Eagle and Baron Vaughn are bringing the live stage version of The New Negroes (which I’ve written about quite a bit on this site) right here to the Freemont Abbey in Seattle. It’s gonna be a night full of standup comedy and music.
Aaagh, It’s been over two years since I’ve seen Mike! I miss him, but I can’t make it to this show due to just the sheer power of logistics and distance.
But that just means that YOU should go, especially my friends who live nearby!
That’s “live” as in “happening right now” not “live” as in “They Live.” But you probably got that…

Power may be a hologram, but this song is fer realz…
Late last week I heard a song on the radio as I was driving home from the train station and I thought to myself, “Damn, this is frikkin’ catchy!” I asked Google (hands-free, of course) to identify the song, and it said it was “Hologram” by Seattle natives Tacocat.
I looked the song up on the YouTubes and listened to it a few times, and it grew on me more and more with each listen. This is one of the most perfectly-crafted new power-pop songs I’ve heard in years. Take a listen:
Man, this song hits all of my buttons. I love the subtle harmonies that come in during the chorus & bridge. It doesn’t hurt that this is an exemplary entry into my one of my all-time favorite musical genres. I would love to be able to hear this live.
Speaking of which…
Tacocat’s new album, This Mess is a Place (from which “Hologram” comes) was just released, and they’re having an album-release party this Saturday, June 8th, at the Showbox in Seattle!

I would love to go to this show but I’m old, tired, and can’t quite justify the time and expense. Therefore you should go in my place!
Hey, remember how Warren Dunes had an album release party back towards the beginning of April? Well, it turns out they’re not done yet, because they’re having another album release party this Thursday night (April 18th).
This one is at the venerable Sonic Boom Records in Seattle. Says the members of Warren Dunes:
We are so excited to celebrate our release of ‘Welcome to Warren Dunes’ at one of our favorite record stores in Seattle! This is a dream come true for us, and we hope you can make it.
It is free, and all ages! CDs will be available at the store!
A very sonic boom to you, too…

Even though this is a school night, we’re seriously considering going. SO CAN YOU!
On Saturday I went to the Seattle to go to the album release show for Warren Dunes. As is my fashion, I made some animated .gifs of the festivities:
o yes
Has Sonics Guy seen any photos from this event…?
I also snagged the album! It turns out it’s only a 6-song EP, not a full-length album. What’s the deal with my friends only putting out EPs recently? See Exhibits A, B, C, and now D (this EP that I’m talking about now).
Anyway, it’s pretty great to get these songs in my own grubby mitts after what seems like such a long time. Strangely, it looks like they haven’t actually released this album anywhere online yet(!?). I got it directly from Julia Massey’s hands. But here’s what it looks like:
Welcome to zombo.com. I mean Warren Dunes.
Hopefully you’ll be able to listen to it soon, too!
Hey, folks, Warren Dunes (featuring Julia Massey) is finally FINALLY releasing their first album, appropriately entitled Welcome to Warren Dunes. To celebrate that fact, they recently released a new single from said album. It’s called “What Are We Waiting For” although there’s no question mark so I guess it’s a statement rather than a question? You can listen to it here.
Also to celebrate the release of the album, Warren Dunes is having, appropriately, an album release show! This Saturday night! With Cumulus and AIAIA!
Be sure to clock-out before you leave work…

Oh, see, “The Crocodile” is the name of the venue…
Hey-o, if you’re in the greater Seattle/Tacoma metropolitan area tonight, be sure to get eaten by a crocodile go to “The Crocodile” in Seattle to see Open Mike Eagle break out some musics along with
VIDEO DAAAAAAAAAVE!
and also Pan Amsterdam, of whom I must confess I’ve never heard before. But here’s a song he did that references Christopher Walken’s infamous Pocket Watch speech from Pulp Fiction:
